The Second Time Around.
My father had a basement full of woodworking tools he puttered around with on weekends. When he died, I relocated them to my basement, where they sat, unused, for years. I was the Creative Director for an advertising agency, and too busy to do anything with them. Until I developed arthritis in my hip.
I shopped around for a walking cane, but couldn’t find one I liked at a price I was willing to pay. Then, while limping around in my backyard, I noticed a straight, six-foot tall hickory sapling. Perfect timing, I thought, and last time I looked, I’ve got a basement full of tools!
Since then, I’ve created five more canes, along with dozens of other pieces of wood art. Best of all, I have a terrific support/critique team in my wife Alexa, daughter Holly, and son Alex.
