the Second Time Around

I’m drawn to old wood.
Scarred, broken tree branches.
Shrub roots, shriveled and tangled,
or splayed out as if shocked that someone
finds them interesting.
River driftwood, dwelling on the bottom
with a steady diet of sand and dirt.
They all offer a challenge I can’t resist—
bringing them to life again.

For some of my wood art pieces, I have written little stories about them, or a few words that convey what I was thinking while creating them. Each represents what I see in the piece. However, if it means something different to you, by all means, wad it up and throw it away.
